CMA CGM and DSV have signed an agreement under which DSV will use CMA CGM's ACT+ low-carbon shipping solution to support a targeted reduction of 12,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over two years. The reductions are to come from low-carbon fuels, specifically second-generation biofuels based on UCOME (used cooking oil methyl ester).
What ACT+ Is
ACT+ is CMA CGM's range of low-carbon transport solutions for customers who want to reduce the emissions attributed to their shipments. CMA CGM says the solution can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 83% compared with conventional shipping fuel, through low-carbon fuels including UCOME-based biofuels and BioLNG. The company's commercial site describes ACT+ as a set of tools to measure and reduce a shipper's CO2 emissions and to complement that with offsetting of the remaining emissions. The 83% figure is a CMA CGM claim and is expressed as a maximum.
Why the Agreement Is Framed Around a Target
The 12,000-tonne figure is a targeted reduction over two years, not a delivered result. DSV's Michael Hollstein, SVP Global Ocean Product, said the agreement expands access to lower-carbon shipping options for DSV's customers, and Amandine Paulet, CMA CGM's Vice President and Deputy Chief Commercial Officer, described it as a partnership between long-standing commercial partners. DSV has committed to net-zero emissions across its own operations and value chain by 2050, matching CMA CGM's own 2050 net-zero goal.
Where Biofuel Sits in CMA CGM's Fleet Strategy
CMA CGM was the first shipping company to make a large-scale commitment to LNG propulsion for ultra-large container ships, following a 2017 decision, and took delivery in 2020 of the CMA CGM Jacques Saadé, described as the world's first 23,000-TEU LNG-powered container ship. In 2026 it launched the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME, the first in a series of ten 24,212-TEU LNG-powered vessels, and expects to operate around 200 dual-fuel LNG and methanol-powered ships by 2031. In that context, ACT+ gives customers a route to lower-carbon shipping now, using biofuels and BioLNG, while the fleet transition continues. CMA CGM adds that DSV joins a growing number of companies choosing or renewing ACT+.
