- Description: FedEx secured over 20 million gallons of neat SAF across five US airports through 2027, with blend ratios up to 50% depending on location. It builds on a 2025 phase that deployed 16.5 million gallons blended, working toward FedEx's 30% alternative jet fuel goal by 2030.

FedEx has signed new sustainable aviation fuel agreements projected to secure more than 20 million gallons of neat SAF across five US airports through calendar year 2027\. The agreements cover FedEx operations at Newark Liberty International, Oakland International, Miami International, John F. Kennedy International, and Dallas Fort Worth International, with blend ratios expected to range from 30% to 50% depending on location.

### Building on an Already-Running Programme, Not Starting Fresh

FedEx began this SAF procurement phase in 2025, securing roughly 5 million gallons of neat SAF through agreements that resulted in 16.5 million gallons of blended SAF being deployed across the same five airports. This new agreement is explicitly the next phase of that existing programme rather than a separate initiative, and the company states SAF blends now represent a significant share of its jet fuel use at those specific locations.

### Why the Blend Ratio Range Matters

The 30% to 50% blend range, varying by airport, is notably higher than the blend ratios in most SAF offtake deals covered elsewhere, many of which involve considerably lower percentages of a given airport's total fuel supply. FedEx's own framing attributes the higher blend levels specifically to state and federal incentives enabling this expansion, rather than describing it as a change in underlying SAF availability or cost at these locations.

### The Target This Sits Against

FedEx has stated a goal of sourcing 30% of its jet fuel from alternative sources by 2030, part of a broader ambition toward carbon-neutral global operations by 2040\. This agreement is one incremental step within that longer trajectory rather than a claim that the 2030 target is now secured; FedEx's own language describes continued evaluation of further opportunities as supply, infrastructure and economics align, rather than a fixed remaining roadmap to the 30% goal.

### Why FedEx Frames This as a Demand Signal, Not Just a Purchase

FedEx's chief sustainability officer explicitly tied the value of expanded procurement to strengthening demand for greater SAF production and scale, framing the company's own offtake commitment as functioning to support the broader supply side of the market, not solely to reduce FedEx's own emissions. That mirrors a pattern seen in other large-volume corporate SAF offtake agreements covered elsewhere in this series, where buyers position their own purchases explicitly as a market-building signal to producers rather than only a private sustainability action.
