The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the China Classification Society (CCS) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration on maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation and talent development in Singapore. The renewal took place during the Sixth North Bund International Shipping Forum in Shanghai and builds on the partnership the two organisations established in 2023.

### What the Partnership Has Done So Far

Since 2023, MPA and CCS have worked with local research and industry partners on projects ranging from the use of B100 biofuel on harbour craft to the evaluation, testing and verification of smart ships.

### What the Renewed Agreement Adds

The two organisations will expand collaboration on research and development in decarbonisation, including the green fuel value chain, marine electrification and energy efficiency technologies for vessels. They will also deepen cooperation on digital and smart ship initiatives, such as digital testing and risk assessment for autonomous vessels, to support research and innovation in the maritime sector.

### Talent Development

The agreement also covers programmes to give students and aspiring maritime professionals exposure to international maritime companies and industry practices, including the MPA Global Internship Awards, the MaritimeONE Scholarship Programme, internships and attachments.

### The Two Sides' Stated Aims

MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong said the renewal builds on the partnership to advance a more sustainable and innovative maritime sector. CCS Chairman and President Zhao Yan said CCS has strengthened its presence in Singapore and aims for Singapore to be its most comprehensive overseas maritime technology centre and one-stop integrated service platform.

### What Remains Unspecified

The release does not give results from the B100 harbour craft work, name the fuels or projects planned under the green fuel value chain research, or state funding or timelines for the renewed agreement.
