Velocys Doubles Reactor Capacity to Make FT-Based SAF Plants Cheaper to Build

Velocys launched the AlphaCore 400 microchannel reactor, roughly doubling capacity per unit while cutting FT unit cost, the first step in a roadmap to scale SAF production. The design targets larger, centralised facilities rather than smaller distributed plants FT has traditionally suited.

Sinopec Completes CNAF Takeover, Merging China's SAF Production and Distribution

Sinopec completed its takeover of China National Aviation Fuel Group, integrating refining and distribution as jet fuel demand is projected to hit 75 million tonnes by 2040. Critics warn it could squeeze private SAF producers; analysts expect it to accelerate SAF expansion.

UK Sets Timeline for Its SAF Price-Guarantee Mechanism

The UK's DfT published its allocation strategy for the Revenue Certainty Mechanism, a contract-for-difference scheme helping SAF producers reach FID. SAF AR1 opens Q1 2027, targeting up to 230,000 tonnes of capacity, funded through a levy on aviation fuel suppliers.

SAF Gets a Line in China's Sweeping New Ecological Plan

China's "Beautiful China" 15th Five-Year Plan targets a 7-10% emissions cut below peak by 2035. Within its transport measures: calls to develop SAF and advance CCUS, alongside airport electrification and port shore power, plans that typically trigger ministry-level policy within years.

Sinopec Bets on Central Asia for Its First Overseas SAF Plant

Sinopec Engineering signed a FEED contract with Uzbekistan's Allied Biofuels to design Central Asia's first integrated SAF complex, combining biomass-based SAF and e-SAF using sorghum, rice husks and solar power, targeting Central Asian, Middle Eastern and European markets.

Pertamina and Boeing Sign MOU to Build Indonesia's SAF Industry

Indonesia's Pertamina signed an MOU with Boeing to develop a domestic SAF industry, covering feedstock, technology and policy. Pertamina's SAF work draws on used cooking oil via Cilacap, a separate feedstock pool from the palm-oil-based B50 mandate, reducing cross-sector competition.

SIA Holds the Line on SAF as Middle East Fuel Shock Bites

Singapore Airlines reaffirmed its SAF commitment despite a Middle East-driven fuel cost shock, continuing its voluntary SAF trial with Scoot and Changi Airport Group even as CAAS deferred the mandatory levy's start date. SIA has hedged 47% of expected fuel needs but hasn't reintroduced surcharges.

The latest on the Singapore SAF Levy

CAAS deferred Singapore's SAF Levy by three months, citing Middle East-driven cost pressures on airlines and passengers. Underlying targets remain unchanged, a 1% SAF uplift for 2026 rising to 3-5% by 2030, with only the revenue collection timeline moved back.

Singapore-Grown Blending Tech Meets Chicago-Rooted SAF Innovation

Aether Fuels and FlyORO signed an MOU to explore SAF supply-chain and blending for Project Beacon, Aether's waste-carbon SAF facility at Aster's Pulau Bukom refinery, targeting 2,000 tonnes annually by 2028. FlyORO's modular blending platform aims to skip costly new fixed terminals.

Ethanol-to-Jet Has a New Home in Singapore

KBR will provide licensing and FEED for Asia's first commercial-scale ethanol-to-jet SAF plant, developed by Keppel and Aster on Jurong Island, targeting up to 100,000 tonnes annually. AtJ draws on ethanol instead of the contested used cooking oil feedstock HEFA-based SAF depends on.

Rethinking Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia sits on one of the world’s largest concentrations of bio-based feedstocks suitable for advanced biofuels and SAF. Yet much of the region still risks replicating a familiar pattern: exporting low-value feedstocks while importing back high-value refined products at substantial premiums.

How Green Methanol Is Made, and Why Supply Is Still Tight

Green methanol is made through two main routes. The first is biomethanol, which uses biogenic feedstocks such as forestry and agricultural residues, biogas, sewage-derived gas, municipal solid waste, and black liquor from pulp mills.
